Axley Verenice "A.V" Thompson, of the Indiantown community near Lake City, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the age of 83. After several months of declining health, A.V. died peacefully with his three children by his side.

A.V. was born on April 13, 1937 to Bernice Eugene Thompson and Clyder Exline Thompson. The last survivor of six siblings, A.V. worked on the family farm as well as many odd jobs from an early age. His strong work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to prosper in many different professions.

A.V. was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gayle Mitchell Thompson (March 6, 1939 – January 13, 2019).

He is survived by his three children, Debbie Thompson Kirkland, Thomas Mitchell (Linda) Thompson, and Ava Graham Thompson; four grandchildren, Tracey Lee Thompson, Tamara Nicole Thompson, Maria Catherine Thompson, and Marion Ernest Kirkland III.

A memorial service, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held at 6pm on Friday, July 17, 2020, in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 PM on Friday, July 17, 2020, in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N Main Street, Hemingway, SC 29554.
