Barbara Jane
Smith Lawrimore
Jun 25, 1938 — Apr 5, 2026
Barbara Jane Smith Lawrimore, age 87, of Florence, SC, passed into the presence of the Lord on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2026.
Born June 25, 1938, she grew up in Florence, SC, and lived a life marked by deep faith, generous love, and a spirit of adventure. She was a registered nurse for 25 years and a hospice nurse for 11 years, always caring for others with compassion. She also lived boldly—showing Appaloosa horses, earning her private pilot's license, flying her Cessna 172, and riding motorcycles.
Above all, she lived her faith in Jesus Christ. She faithfully taught Sunday school for most of her life. She was a devoted mother, a beloved piano teacher, and a faithful servant in the church as a choir director, pianist, and organist. A medical mission trip to Brazil fulfilled a lifelong dream. As Grandmom, she created lasting memories through time spent together, teaching, loving, and investing in each grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Louie Brice Lawrimore, her parents, Robert and Edna Smith, and a sister, Sue Smith Curran McLeese.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin Lewis (Jeff) and Barbara Travelstead; her grandchildren, Rebecca Digrugilliers, Rachel Kennedy, Christopher Bellflowers (Lora), Tyler Bellflowers (Natalie), Austin Travelstead (Kimberly), Preston Travelstead (Skylyn), and Sarah Travelstead; 12 great-grandchildren; a special grandson-in-law, Aaron Digrugilliers, and a brother, Robert P. Smith, Jr.(Dianne).
A family-led celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Hemingway, SC. Visitation with family and friends will be at 2:00 pm, followed by the service at 3:00 pm. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be private.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Agape Hospice House of Florence in memory of Barbara Smith Lawrimore.
