Obituary

Hemingway, SC

Bernice Elaine Moore Carter, 106, widow of Rev. Clifford LeRoy Carter, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020, at her home.

Born in Georgetown County, she was the daughter of the late William S. Moore and Clementine "Tinny" Thompkins Moore, and widow of Rev. Clifford LeRoy Carter, to whom she'd been married for 69 years. She was a retired elementary school teacher and loved to tell stories of her days teaching. A lover of music, she played the piano at many churches that her husband pastored and after retirement for the senior citizens at the Hemingway Community Center until she was 100, where she also loved to play bingo and fellowship with her friends. Throughout her life, she met numerous people and must have made good impressions with each because there isn't a person who ever met her that has not had positive memories of her. She will be fondly remembered.

Surviving are a son, Travis LeRoy Carter of Hemingway; four grandchildren, Cindy Kirby and Richard King of Lyman, Donna Carter of Lexington, and Christopher Carter (Brittany) of Hemingway; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; those who felt as if they were part of her immediate family; and two special caregivers, Clementine and Doreen.

Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by a daughter, Novyce Carter King; daughter-in-law, Nancy Carter; and granddaughter, Allison Gonzalez.

Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be private.

Memorials can be made to Good Hope United Methodist Church, PO Box 491, Hemingway, SC 29554.
