Florence, SC - Betsy Jo Eaddy entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2020. A graveside service will be held at Old Johnsonville Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

Betsy was born on May 8, 1943 in Hemingway, SC to the late Jack J. Eaddy and the late Willie Maude Johnson Eaddy. She graduated from Hemingway High School in 1960 and received a bachelor's degree from Winthrop College in 1964. Betsy earned a Master of Social Work from Florida State University in 1966.

Betsy lived her life doing for others. Her vocation was being a medical social worker at the SC Crippled Children's Home, followed by SC Health Department Home Health and nursing homes one of which was Bethea Baptist Home. It was, in fact, Betsy's employment at the SC Crippled Children's Home that proved to be the highlight of her professional career. It was there that she was mentored and befriended by Doctors George Dawson, David McLean, Erskine Moore and Julian Price, and nurses Mary Lou Campbell and Dorothy Asman, all (with the exception of Dr. Moore) who had lived out their faith at First Presbyterian. More significantly, Betsy brought great joy and delight to the precious, though vulnerable, patients there by making their days in confinement special with various gifts, toys and extra attention. She was their fairy godmother - living out the commandment "to love the least of these."

Betsy was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church as well as the Women's Only Sunday School Class. She was active in her church circle, Posies and Petals. Betsy always commented that her family was First Presbyterian Church. The Just for Women Bible Study was also a blessing to her.

Betsy loved the Lord and felt closest to Him in nature. She captured these moments in her painting and photography. The beauty of the Low Country brought her much joy and peace.

We are grateful for the compassionate care Betsy received the last three months of her life at Bethea Retirement Community, the place where she had served residents years prior.

Betsy was most thankful for the excellent care given to her over the years by Dr. Conyers O'Bryan and Dr. Jane Senseney.

Betsy is survived by a brother and a host of friends.
