Hemingway, SC

Brenda Collins Ruffin Downs, 62, of Lexington, SC, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at her home, and has now gone on to Heaven to be with her husband, Bobby Ruffin.

Brenda was born in Elizabethtown, NC a daughter of Vivian Jernigan Collins and the late William "Ray" Collins. She graduated from Hemingway High School in 1977 and afterwards received her Associates Degree from Florence Darlington Tech as a Dental Assistant.

In 1985 she moved to Columbia and opened a Day Care Facility where she lovingly taught numerous children over a period of 20 years. She was a member of the Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, SC. She loved her two dogs, Peanut and Carmen and she also enjoyed cross stitching, making bows, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Justin (Alma) Ruffin, Matthew (Adrianna) Downs, Meggan (Johnathan) Arnold, and Andrew Downs; grandchildren, JT Ruffin, Jackson Ruffin, Emberlee Downs, Ava Downs, Kaynslee Wooten Downs, Liam Downs, Nora Downs, Ethan Arnold, and Nathan Arnold and many other children that she loved as her own; mother, Vivian J. Collins; brothers, Bill (Cindy) Collins and John (Wanda) Collins; sister, Shelly (Jim) Ruffin; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, August 16, 2020 in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 Sunday, August 16, 2020 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
