Charles "Chuck" F. Hunter, Jr., 85, husband of Mary Haselden Hunter, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 at his home.
Born at home in Danbury, Connecticut, on January 23, 1937, a son of the late Charles F. Hunter, Sr. and the late Dora Carpenter Hunter. He was the youngest of six and was the only son..
He served 20 years in the US Air Force and retired as a Tech Sergeant, then he worked for the US Postal Service retiring after 20 years of service and also served as the Magistrate for Williamsburg County fully retiring in 1999.
He was always a worker "making money". At age 12-13 he would stack bottles behind a store on Sunday mornings, also he helped at the hot dog stand.
He was in the Connecticut State Guard at the age of 16 and worked at a gas station and signed up for the Air Force at 17.
Then in 1957, while stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, he met this Girl Scout Mary Haselden and so the story goes. Fell in love and married in 1960 and been together ever since---with three sons and four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. It has been a wonderful life.
He served 15 months in Turkey; one year in Viet Nam; received the Bronze Star. While stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, they made great life-time friends while there.
His favorite past times were cutting grass and wood working.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Haselden Hunter; sons, Charles E. (Lisa) Hunter, D. Frankie (Jennifer) Hunter, and Ronnie Hunter; grandchildren, Gareth (Ashley) Hunter, Rachel (Kirby) Rheinlander, Amy (Jimmy) Kaiser, and Hannah Claire Hunter; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Pender, Millie Rheinlander, and Lillie Rheinlander; sister, Charlotte Prybyski; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Madison Grace Hunter.
Funeral services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2022 in the Hemingway First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 4865 Hemingway Hwy., Hemingway, SC 29554.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, April 16, 2022 in the Hemingway First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Broad St., Hemingway, SC 29554
