Dora Lee Stone Durant, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 in Pamplico, South Carolina.

Born in Vox, South Carolina, on March 25, 1928, she was the second oldest of nine children born to Marvin D. Stone and Thelma Cox Stone. Two of her siblings, David and Devoe, were deceased at birth. Their mother gave each of her children a name beginning with the letter “D”: Doris, Dora, Daisy, David, Devoe, Donald, Deloris, Diane, and Doolittle.

After graduating from Johnsonville High School in 1942, she attended Florence Business College. While there, she worked at the candy counter at the Colonial Theatre in Florence, where she met Gordon Lynsford Berg. They married on January 30, 1947, and had two daughters, Dena and Geri, before Gordon’s death in 1951.

In 1954, she married J.B. Davis and became the owner and operator of Davis Grocery in Gresham. She was beloved by the community, especially neighborhood children who knew she might slip them a piece of candy. She also often helped neighbors with their short-form tax returns. After J.B.’s death in 1979, she married Simon “Dick” Durant on December 1, 1984. During their years together, they were very active in their Florence bowling leagues, and she enjoyed traveling to cities across the country with a women’s group from Florence, indulging her adventurous spirit.

Faith and fellowship remained important throughout her life. She and Dick devotedly attended Vox United Methodist Church, where they helped prepare meals, worked on building and repairs, and responded to the needs of their church and community. They loved the Lord and always strove to help God’s people however they could.

Those who knew her well will remember her love of word games, her sense of humor, and her gift for making people feel remembered. She sent handwritten cards and notes for birthdays, graduations, and simply to let family and friends know she was thinking of them. She was especially proud of her nieces and nephews and made sure they knew how much she loved them.

She is survived by her daughters, Dena Brown (Scott Brown) of Pamplico, SC, and Gerilynn Seiveno (Gene Seiveno) of Pawleys Island, SC; her grandchildren, Joey Miller of Florence, SC, Lyndsey Gore (Keith Baldwin) of Arlington, VA, and Carson Brown (Jennifer Brown) of Dunn, NC; her great-grandchildren, Hailey and Emma Brown; her beloved brother, Doolittle Stone; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gordon Lynsford Berg, J.B. Davis, and Simon “Dick” Durant; her parents, Marvin Doris Stone and Thelma Cox Stone; her brother, Donald Stone; and her sisters, Diane Marsh of Johnsonville, SC; Daisy Calcutt of Florence, SC; Deloris Brock of Hartsville, SC; and Doris Moore of Lakeland, FL.

Dora will be remembered for her love of family, her quick wit and humor, her adventurous spirit, and the many thoughtful ways she showed people they mattered.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Vox Memorial United Methodist Church, 1858 Vox Highway, Johnsonville, South Carolina, 29555. The family will receive friends in the Church Sanctuary one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 846 S. Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, South Carolina, 29555.
