Dorothy Love James, 78, wife of Bobby E. James, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at her home.
Mrs. James was born in Kingstree, SC, the daughter of the late James Rowland Love, Sr. and the late Hattie Bowles Love. She is also predeceased by her brothers, James Rowland Love, Jr., and Joseph Lavern Love.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hemingway, where she was a member of the choir and enjoyed playing the handbells. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved reading, gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was the rock and guiding light of her family, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, "Mama Dorothy; and 'DarDar', and she will be forever missed.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bobby E. James; her children, Cindy (Rodney) James Fridley of Florence, Elaine (Gary) James Drapeau of Bonaire, GA, Gregg (Malissa) James of Johnsonville, and Adriane (Mark) James Woodrum of Florence; grandchildren, Kristen (Robert) Poston Mayer of Georgetown, Kyle Drapeau of Summerville, Matthew (Morgan) Drapeau of Columbia, Elizabeth James of Johnsonville, Taylor James of Columbia, Patrick Woodrum, Kaleigh Woodrum, and Abby Woodrum all of Florence; step-grandson, Matthew Fridley of Ft. Cambell, KY; step-granddaughters, Samatha (Cameron) Foster of Columbia and Danielle (Bart) Trimnal of Irmo; great-grandchildren, Crayton, Caleb, and Eli Mayer all of Georgetown and two step great-grandchildren, Hayden and Evan Trimnal of Irmo.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the Hemingway First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be in the Kingstree Memorial Gardens immediately following the services.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00PM Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the Hemingway First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 200 E. George St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tidelands Community Hospice, especially Richelle and Lily, for their loving care of Dorothy.
