Ella Lou Barnhill Powell, 85, widow of Norman L. Powell, Sr., passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020, at a Kingstree nursing home.
Ella Lou was born in Hemingway, SC, a daughter of the late Archie E. Barnhill, Sr. and Healon Miller Barnhill. She was a retired seamstress having worked for Hemingway Apparel for 34 years. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and a member of United Methodist Women and the Board of Missions. She was also a member of Vital Aging of Williamsburg County for Seniors and served as PTA vice president at Pleasant Hill School. In her spare time, Ella Lou enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking.
She is survived by a son, Casey Powell; daughter, Vickie Brown; daughter-in-law, Bea Ward Powell; grandchildren, Ellen (Ryan Holmes) Powell, Ward (Megan) Powell, Davis (Jennifer) Brown, Louie (Dottie) Brown, Brandi (Fred) Gadsen, and Jessica (Jeffrey) Skeen; great grandchildren, Heston Powell, Nick Fulton, Andy Fulton, Slayder Tilton, Bently Brown, Eli Brown, Casey Tilton, Freddie Gadsen, and Lana Tilton; great-great grandson, Logan Fulton; sister-in-law, Pauline Barnhill.
She was predeceased by a son, Norman L. "Bubba" Powell, Jr.; brothers, Dudley D. Barnhill and Archie E. Barnhill, Jr.; sisters, Maude Hunt, Annell Derrick, and Agnes Fryer; step-brother, Vernie E. Barnhill.
Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 17, 2020 in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1760 Pope Rd, Hemingway, SC 29554.
The family will receive friends after the service on the church grounds.
