Obituary

Hemingway, SC

Ercell Williams Tyler, 95, widow of Julias Hadrian Tyler, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at National HealthCare in Garden City, SC.

Born the daughter of Jacob Wesley Williams and Lula Mae Baxley Williams on August 31, 1928, in the Choppee Community of Georgetown County, the fifth born of eight children.

She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1946 and went on to have a fulfilled life as wife, mother, and homemaker. At a later age, she thoroughly enjoyed a new adventure as a school bus driver.  Ercell was a true southern woman with many talents:  prize-winning seamstress, incredible cook and baker, hard-working gardener and farmer. Summer was her favorite time while canning vegetables, helping manage the farm, and working in her yard.  Her love for family and friends was boundless; she cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

She lived a Christian life, growing up as a faithful member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.  After marriage, she became a loyal member of Good Hope United Methodist Church, which was the foundation of her life.  She found joy serving God in her community.

Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Young (Joe), Libbie Lewis (Mike), Debbie Nettles, Rose Carnley (George); eight grandchildren, Tyler Young, Michael Lewis, Tara Marcella (JP), Leslie Stone (Ryan), Adrian Filyaw (Gerald), Roxanne Willis (Ben), Mendal Nettles (Laurel), Morgan Loyd (Chad); 19 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Cecil Williams (Peggy).

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Larue Nettles; two sisters, Gwendolyn Mitchum and Miriam Cox; and four brothers, Loyal Williams, Winston Williams, Wyman Williams, and Olin Williams.

Funeral service, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held at Good Hope Methodist Church, 7547 Pleasant Hill Drive, Hemingway, SC, 29554 on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
