Esther Cooper Matthews, 89, widow of Allen W. Matthews, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in a Florence nursing center.

Mrs. Esther was born in Pamplico, SC, the daughter of Bill and Nellie Cooper.  She was a seamstress and was a member of Leo Church of God.  She enjoyed helping in the church and helping people in the community.  She especially loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Esther's family would like to thank the staff of Commander Nursing Center for their care of Mrs. Esther.

She is survived by her daughters Cookie Tanner, Barbara (Bobby) Douglas and Mary Ann (Ernie) Owens; grandchildren Susan (Greg) Long, Cliff Tanner, Michelle Douglas, Casey Owens and Alyson Owens; great grandchildren Matthew Belshaw, Tanner Minton, Alexis Douglas, Ashley Ingram, Makayla Douglas, Destiny Douglas, Delaney Tanner, Trevor Tanner and Josh Tanner; great-great grandchild Sparrow Ingram; siblings Sherwin Bean and Myrtle Richardson.

She was pre-deceased by a grandson, Bobby Douglas Jr. and by siblings Geneva Howard and Winston Cooper.

Graveside services will be held at 2PM Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 in the Leo Church of God Cemetery.  Visitation will be after the service at the cemetery. Mrs. Esther can be viewed Thursday from 12PM to 5PM at the funeral home.
