Obituary

Johnsonville, SC

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Paula Faye Burris Hanna, 74, of Vox. Faye passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024, after a short stay at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson. She was surrounded by her family until the glorious moment when she entered her heavenly home.

Faye was born on July 12, 1949, in Union, SC. She was one of four children of William Eugene and Willie Mae Rogers Burris. Faye loved playing with her cousins and brothers on Union's Mill Hill as a child. Her father's construction work took the family first to Lake City and then to Johnsonville, SC, where Faye graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1967. She married her high school sweetheart, Marion Leverne Hanna, on Groundhog's Day, February 2, 1968.

Faye was a lifelong member of Westside Free Will Baptist Church in Johnsonville where she taught Sunday School to generations. She was a leader with the South Carolina Women Active for Christ group and a supporter of Free Will Baptist Missions work. Faye forged a decades-long career with Askins, Chandler & Askins in Hemingway and later retired from Arbor One Farm Credit in Florence. Faye fondly treasured the friendships that were formed at Westside, at work, and in the Vox community. She had the good fortune of making many new friends in her final year as a resident of Dominion Senior Living in Anderson.

In addition to her parents, Faye was predeceased by her husband Marion and two brothers and a sister-in-law: Roger Burris and Charles Burris (Nancy). Living to cherish her memories and laughter are her children, Lee Hanna (Jennifer) and Kristi Johnson (Tim); a sister, Mona Dukes (Steve) and sister-in-law Peggy Burris; grandchildren Alejandro Johnson (Breanna) and Ana Johnson (Jacob Snow); a special cousin Brenda Pridemore (Franklin); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who adore her.

Services will be provided by Morris Funeral Home with a public visitation from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 16, at Westside Free Will Baptist Church, 539 Vox Highway, Johnsonville.
