Frances Thompson Owens, 83, widow of Wayne M. Owens, Sr., passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, in a Florence hospital.
Mrs. Frances was born in Johnsonville, SC, a daughter of the late Theodore and Frances Judson Haselden Thompson. She retired from Wellman Industries after 44 years where she served as a human resources communication manager and was a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as chair of the food committee.
Mrs. Frances was also a member of the Hemingway Red Hat Society, and a board member of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve where she was awarded for 36 years of service by the Department of Defense. She cared for the shut-ins in the community by cooking and sending cards to those in need. Most of all, she enjoyed traveling with her daughter and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Susanne Owens and Wayne M. Owens, Jr.; a brother, Earl Thompson; and her companion, Bebe the cat.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Harriett Cribb and Natalie Rogers; and brothers, Sutton Grier and Marion Grier.
Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at 11 AM in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, 8209 Rose Hill Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
