Fred Ervin "Buddy" Newell, 85, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, in a Florence, SC hospital.

Buddy was born in Hemingway, SC, son of the late Alford Butterfield and Mattie Caretha Cribb Newell. He was a retired Raw Material Procurement Vice President for Wellman Industries, a member of the Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher at the church.

He is a graduate of Hemingway High School Class of 1955, Palmer Business College, and served as a member of the SC National Guard and was also a Mason. He loved to walk, enjoyed all sports, was an avid Carolina fan, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sisters, Mildred Prosser, Margie (Lonnie Wayne) Cox, and Joyce (Charles) Phillips and four generations of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene Newell, Harold Newell, and Everett Newell; sisters, Harriett Stone, Gladys Riser and Betty Mullins and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 8, 2023, in the Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday, January 8, 2023, in the Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in honor of Mr. Fred Ervin "Buddy" Newell, to the New Old Johnsonville Cemetery Fund, PO Box 338, Johnsonville, SC 29555.
