Freddie Porter, 75, widower of Annie “Susie” Porter, passed away on August 21, 2026, in Scranton. He was born to the late Robert Lee Porter and Olean Thigpen Porter.

Born on April 18, 1951, in Manning, South Carolina, Freddie lived a life rooted in hard work and familiar pastimes. He served as the lead mechanic at J.C. Witherspoon Logging, where his mechanical skill was an important part of his work.

Freddie enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, playing softball, and bowling. He also enjoyed mechanical work outside of his career and was an avid Gamecock fan. These interests were a meaningful part of his life and how he spent time with those around him.

He is survived by his daughter, Christi Smith (Terry); his grandson, Thomas Lee Smith; his sisters, Martha (Lee) McArthur, Dorothy (Johnny) Richburg, and Shirley Conyers; his brothers, Ronnie (Melissa) Porter and Carl Porter; his special brother, Tommy (Susan) Evans Sr.; and a very special sister Debbie Porter widow of Ray Porter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Pat Welch; Tink Welch; brother-in-law Gene Conyers; and in-laws Jackie Norris, Buck Evans, and Shirley Evans.

Freddie Porter will be remembered for the life he lived, the work he did, and the many interests he enjoyed throughout the years. His family is being assisted by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway during these trying times.

A celebration of life for Freddie and Annie “Susie” Porter will be held at Brewington Presbyterian Church, North Brewington Rd., Manning, SC 29102 on September 5th, 2pm - 4pm.
