Gretchen Denise Cooper McCants, 56, passed away at her home in Johnsonville on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Gretchen was born in Florence, SC, the oldest child of John Gary Cooper, Sr and Ella Roberts Cooper Baxley.  She was a graduate of Johnsonville High School.  She worked at McCall's Heating and Air in Johnsonville .  Gretchen was a fun-loving person with an infectious laugh.  She was a long-time member of Westside Free Will Baptist Church who, over the years, was a member of the choir and Praise Team.  Gretchen enjoyed singing, watching scary movies, and spending time with family.  She was an avid animal-lover who never referred to her furry companions as pets.  Gretchen especially loved and doted on her long-time fur babies, Kota and Boomer.

Gretchen is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ella Cooper Baxley; two brothers, John Gary "Little Gary" Cooper, Jr. and Joshua Cooper; one sister, Ashley Cooper; and step-father, Homer Baxley as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her father, John Gary Cooper, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in the Eaddy Ford Cemetery located at 481 S Eaddy Ford Road, Johnsonville, SC, 29555.  The family will receive friends from  3:00 – 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main Street, Hemingway, SC, 29554.
