Mrs. Imogene "Jean" Gwinn McElrath, widow of the Reverend Hiram Lloyd McElrath, went to be with her Savior in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Benton House of Florence.

Mrs. Jean was born in Drayton Mills, SC,  a daughter of the late Edwin and Daisy Hughes Gwinn.  After graduating from Spartanburg High School, she attended North Greenville College and the University of Southwestern Louisiana.  She later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina at Coastal Carolina with a Bachelors of Science in elementary education.  She taught elementary school in Williamsburg, Dorchester, and Lee counties. She married "Mr. Mack," as he was lovingly referred, and worked beside him in Christian ministry for fifty-eight years.  During her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends.  In addition, she was an accomplished watercolor artist.

Mrs. Jean is survived by daughters Debbie (Percy, Jr.) Lawrimore, Susan Yarborough, and Joye Hanna; grandchildren Erin Lawrimore, Denise (Greg) Glisson, Megan (Will) Bolt, Rhonda (Steven) Edwards, Angela Yarborough, Brian (Summer) Yarborough, Hank (Deetz) Hanna, Amber (Will) Forbes; great-grandchildren Peyton, Violet, Delany, Ryanne, Brady, Matt, CJ, Wynn, Aiden, Charlie, Sam, and Owen; sister-in-law Marie Cochran; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sons-in-laws Rick Yarborough and Frank Hanna as well as nine siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Garden of Devotion Cemetery, 800 S Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, SC  29555.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 in the Johnsonville First Baptist Church, 145 North Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, SC, 29555.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Johnsonville First Baptist Church Youth Group, PO Box 314, Johnsonville, SC, 29555.
