James Wesley Brown, Sr.

January 30, 1953 – January 9, 2026

James Wesley Brown, Sr., 72, passed away on January 9, 2026. Born on January 30, 1953, in Hemingway, South Carolina, he was the son of Kenneth Merell Brown and Frances J. Brown.

He graduated from Clemson University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. An active member of Hemingway First United Methodist Church, James sang in the choir and participated in Sunday School until his career with Dartco/Tupperware Manufacturing took him to Augusta, Georgia. After several years in Augusta, he was transferred to Morden, Manitoba, Canada. His desire to remain close to Clemson University eventually brought him back to the Upstate of South Carolina, where he settled in the Seneca area and remained until his passing.

James' greatest passions were his family and flying airplanes with his father and uncle. He also enjoyed sailing on Lake Keowee and Lake Hartwell.

He is survived by his son, James Wesley Brown, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Jessica Whitley Brown; and his stepson, Charles Gregory Springs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Teddy Brown and David Brown.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Old Johnsonville Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather following the service at Shady Rest Restaurant, 477 South Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, South Carolina 29555.
