James "Sack" Rhames, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.

A son of the late Ernest Rhames and Curtis Venters Rhames, Sack was born on July 5, 1940, in Hemingway, South Carolina.  He spent his life rooted in the neighboring community of Johnsonville.  He built a career as a truck driver, a profession that suited his love for the open road.

Sack found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved riding around town, often stopping by to visit with family or catch up with friends over a hot cup of coffee. These everyday moments reflected the warmth and familiarity he brought into the lives of those around him.

Sack is survived by a son, Rickey Rhames; a daughter, Lisa (James) Parsons; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Rhames; and two close friends who were like family to him—Sharon Neighbors and Nathan Neighbors.

Sack was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Powell; sisters Betty Thompson, Eva Ray, and Ernestine Owens; and a brother, Bubba Rhames.

A memorial service, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held on Sunday November 2, 2025 at 4:00 PM in the Vox United Methodist Church, 1858 Vox Hwy, Johnsonville, SC, 29555.

The family will visit with friends and family after the service at the Vox United Methodist Church.
