Indiantown

David Rose, 93, husband of Marva Gail Johnson Rose, passed away on August 15, 2026. Born on August 26, 1932, in Raleigh, North Carolina, a son of the late Jesse Calvin and Gladys Claire Graves Rose, David lived a long and fulfilling life marked by dedication to his country, his passions, and his community.

David graduated from Indiantown High School before pursuing higher education at The University of South Carolina. He furthered his studies at the School of Banking in Wilmington, Delaware. His commitment to learning and personal growth was evident throughout his life.

A proud veteran, David served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He participated in the Chosin campaign and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for his service. His time in the military left an indelible mark on him, fostering a lifelong love for the military and its values. He enjoyed and participated in many military reunions, even traveling back to Korea for a unit reunion.

Outside of his professional and military accomplishments, David found joy in several pursuits. He was an avid hunter who cherished time spent outdoors and had a deep appreciation for farming. His connection to the land reflected his hardworking spirit and love for nature. Additionally, he was a member of the Omar Jailbirds, a group that brought camaraderie and fellowship into his life. He was a member of the Kingstree Presbyterian Church, and longtime mayor of Stuckey.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marva Gail Johnson Rose; daughters Mary (John) Newby, Virgina Rose, and Janet Rose Wilson; grandchildren Taylor (Jesse) Wisley, Addison (Miles) Newby, Carson (Jonathan) Peters, Delmarie Elizabeth Wilson, Blakely (Christian) Woodard, David Slade Fennell, and Sydnie (Dylan) Boucher; Great-grandchildren Hudson Wisley, Newby Wisley, Sloan Peters. Hall Peters, Ada Woodard, Rhodes Woodard, Bently Boucher, Alys Boucher, Cruz Boucher; and sister Elizabeth Friedson.

He is predeceased by his sister Julie Claire Rose.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 20, 2026 at 12:15 PM in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 20, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel 416 N Main Street Hemingway SC, 29554. Burial Directed by Morris Funeral Home will follow in the Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 865 Hemingway Hwy, Hemingway SC, 29554.
