James Allen Survay Powell, Sr., 79, husband of Mrs. Betty Ann Newton Morris Powell, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, in the MUSC Health Black River Medical Center in Cades, SC.

Mr. James was born in Johnsonville, SC the son of the late Leland and Lila Mae Owens Powell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to music, spending time with family and friends especially the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Newton Morris Powell; children, James "Champ" Allen Survay (Jennifer) Powell, Jr., Lilla P. Long (Bruce Godwin) and Mary P. (Big John) Rowe; brother, Nick Powell; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and 1 one the way.

He was predeceased by daughters Betty P. Cox, Laurie P. McDaniel, and Leatha P. Lambert; sisters, Bunnie Woodberry, Eva Mae Newton and Frances Donnie Woodberry; son-in-law, Keith McDaniel and great granddaughter, Betsy Lou'hope Blankenship.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home, 37 Nettles Lane, Andrews, SC 29510.

Services will be Private.
