Obituary

Hemingway, SC

Jennie Poston Thompson, 71, wife of Sam Joe Thompson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 18, 2019.

Born in Florence, SC on January 1, 1948, Jennie was the daughter of Ella Kay Poston and the late Reo Brunson Poston. She was a 1966 graduate of Hemingway High School and a life-long member of Union United Methodist Church where she was a member of the church choir and the Women of Faith. Jennie cherished her primary role as homemaker and caregiver to her family. She was a true Southern lady, who could cook an amazing meal and spent hours with her hands in a field, garden, or flower bed. She enjoyed many years working at Allison Dillard's in Hemingway along with finding enjoyment in collecting rocks. Jennie loved and appreciated the little things in life. Her favorite thing was showing her love; she let her light shine on everyone around her.

Jennie was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved everyone and sought to live in peace and harmony with everyone. Jennie was generous with her gifts and talents, always serving others. She faithfully followed the example of Christ by always putting others above herself. She was a true servant who worked tirelessly for her family, her church, her community, and her Lord.

Surviving is her husband of 50 years, Sam Joe Thompson; son, Clint Thompson; two grand-children, Caroline and Cameron Thompson, two sisters; Karen (Joe) Ard, Susan (Tommy) Cook, one sister-in-law; Cindy Poston, three nieces, four nephews, and fourteen great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Lee Poston, Sr, and her great-niece, Anna Grace Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Union United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, February, 23, 2019 in the Union United Methodist Church, 8209 Rose Hill Road, Georgetown, SC 29440.
