Jerry Allen Grant, 78 of Hemingway, SC passed at home on June 3, 2022 with his wife of 34 years, Judith Engel Grant by his side. He is survived by sisters Toni Tennyson, and Paula (Ken) Thayer both of Blythewood, SC, Carol Muir of Hopkins, SC and a brother, Tom (Debbie) James of Rockledge FL. A native of Columbia, SC, he was preceded in death by his parents Charles Earle and Frances Lyles Grant.

Jerry leaves behind a great many people who loved him dearly, including 8 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews, and 22 great great nieces and nephews, his step-son Robert E. (Robin) Wilson of Mint Hill, NC and their children William Wilson of Kansas City, Mo, Jennifer Wilson, PhD. of Wooster, OH, and Alexander Wilson of Mint Hill, NC. Jerry was known as "Two-Daddy" to his chosen Charleston family that includes Greg Pali and Pablo and Rebecca Lara.  He was "Papa G" to Sebastian and Christina Lara.

After 21 years of service, Jerry retired as a Chief Petty Officer, USN. His cremains will be buried at sea at a later date. During his Naval career, he was one of a select few chosen by the Navy to benchmark computer systems for the Navy nationwide. His specialized training enabled him to become a computer analyst and he was instrumental in the development of computer systems onboard ships. He won many commendations for his work with the Navy in the pioneering stages of computer development.

His adventures following retirement led him to create computer systems for insurance companies and newspapers; as an entrepreneur, he obtained four patents, one of which proved the efficacy of putting the cell phone antenna at the bottom instead of the top to avoid cancer producing signals being close to the brain. This was his most important patent. His proudest achievement, however, was "loving Judy best."

He was respected by many. One of his greatest talents was the ability to mentor young people. He was an avid reader and master storyteller. He generously shared his knowledge and modeled his behavior to reflect the good in everyone. Generosity and optimism were his bywords.
