Johnsonville, SC

1st Sergeant John Ethel Cribb, 86, widower of Joan Reese Cribb, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 in a Florence hospital.

Mr. John Ethel was born in Johnsonville, SC, a son of the late John Lester and Marian Dennis Cribb and was also predeceased by his step-mother, Christine Stone Dunahoe Cribb.

He was a member of the Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church an had attended the Bethea Baptist Church for some time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports but especially baseball.

He was a retired 1 ^st Sergeant for the US Army having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During the Korean War he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Driver Badge (Tracked Vehicles), Driver Badge (Wheeled Vehicles), and the Meritorious Medal. During the Vietnam War he received the National Defense Service Medal (1 OC), Good Conduct Medal (7 ^th AWD), Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star and Bronze Star w/Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Silver Star, Combat Infantryman Badge (2D AWD), and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

He is survived by his children, Keith (Ann) Cribb, Donald (Lisa) Cribb, Charles (Tess) Cribb, and Debra Cribb-Hughes; sisters, Margaret (Lorey Gene) Marsh and Annette White; brothers, Darrell (Marie) Cribb and Dennis (Giselle) Cribb; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Distaffen; grandson, Christopher Cribb; brothers, James A. Dunahoe, Franklin Cribb, Jimmy Cribb, and Carol Cribb; sisters, Itilene Williams and Geneva Douglas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 18, 2020 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel.  A private burial, with full Military Honors, will be in the Florence National Cemetery, National Cemetery Road, Florence, SC 29501.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 17, 2020 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethea Baptist Home, Chapel Fund, 157 Home Ave., Darlington, SC 29532.
