Mr. Lonnie Wayne Cox, 89, widower of Mrs. Margie Newell Cox, passed away peacefully at his home on August 6, 2024.

Mr. Lonnie Wayne was born in Hemingway, SC, a son of the late Bertie and Nina Creel Cox.  Mr. Lonnie Wayne was a member of Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church.  He was a Superintendent with Yeargin Construction Company who also enjoyed farming.  In addition to being an avid NASCAR fan, Mr. Lonnie Wayne was the driver of the #17 car on the local racing circuit.

Mr. Lonnie Wayne is survived by a son, Kenny (Kathy) Cox; daughters, Donna Joy (Johnny) McAlister, Sonja (Steve) Nexsen, Karen C. Altman, and Debra (Lonnie) Poole; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 soon-to-be added great grandbabies; and 2 sister-in-laws, Joyce Newell (Charles) Phillips and Bonnie (Ronald) Cox.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Lonnie Wayne was predeceased by 2 sisters, Joyce Powell and Betty Carol Cox; a brother Ronald Cox; and a son-in-law, McLaurin Joy.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Burial will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 846 S. Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, SC, 29555.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1573 Cowhead Road, Hemingway, SC, 29554.
