Obituary

Manning Leggette Johnson, 80, of Aline, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

Mr. Johnson was born in Hemingway, South Carolina and was a son of Richard Johnson and Edith Pauline Douglas Johnson.  He moved to Florida many years ago and worked there in the construction of Disney World, Epcot and later MGM Studios.  Mr. Johnson built his home in the Cobbtown-Aline area in 1989-1990 and he and his family moved there during that time.  Throughout his years in this area, he worked for the Metter-Candler Animal Control, worked for Addlestone Recycling Center in Metter, and attended the Lighthouse Church in Collins.  In addition to his parents and an infant brother, William Moses, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Louise, Betty, Barbara, Ricky, and A.L.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda Mae Cook Johnson of Aline; a son, Jeffrey Dale Johnson of Aline; a brother, Terry; and two sisters, Vivian and Eva; and several nieces nephews.

The funeral will be held 11 o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.

The family will receive Friends from 10 until 11 o'clock in the morning at the funeral home on Wednesday in Georgia.

The graveside service directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy, Johnsonville, South Carolina 29555 on Thursday May 12, at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon.
