Hemingway, SC

Mrs. Margie Newell Cox, 88, wife of Mr. Lonnie Wayne Cox, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 in the Heritage Home of Florence.

Mrs. Margie was born in Hemingway, SC, a daughter of the late Alfred Butterfield and Mattie Caretha Cribb Newell. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church. She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm, and playing the piano. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; Kenny (Kathy) Cox, Donna C. Joy, Sonja C. (Steve) Nexsen, Karen C. Altman, and Debra C. (Lonnie) Poole; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters; Mildred N. Prosser and Joyce (Charles) Phillips.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law, James McLaurin Joy; brothers, Eugene Newell, Harold Newell, Everett Newell, and Buddy Newell; sisters, Harriett Stone, Gladys Riser, and Betty Mullins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday, January 30, 2023 in the Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 846 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.

The family will receive friends from 6 PM until  8 PM Sunday, January 29, 2023 in the Rehobeth Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1573 Cow Head Rd., Hemingway, SC 29554.
