Mark Wayne
Johnson
May 15, 1962 — Aug 6, 2026
Hemingway, SC
With hearts that are broken yet filled with the hope of eternity, we announce that Mark Wayne Johnson, 64, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 12:56 a.m. surrounded by the love of his family at his home.
Born on May 15, 1962, to the late Corine and Jack Johnson, Mark lived a life that reflected faith, integrity, hard work, and unconditional love. He retired from Thompson Construction in 2018 after years of faithful service and dedication. Whether he was building, repairing, woodworking, fishing, hunting, or lending a helping hand, there was very little Mark couldn’t do. He was a man of many talents, but his greatest gift was his servant’s heart.
More than anything, Mark loved the Lord. His faith wasn’t something he simply talked about – it was something he lived every day. He never missed an opportunity to share his testimony and tell others what God had done in his life. His greatest desire was that everyone he loved would one day know the same Savior he cherished.
His beloved wife, Vicky Baxley Johnson, was truly the love of his life and the center of his heart. Their love was one of devotion, friendship, and unwavering commitment. Together they built a beautiful family that became Mark’s greatest accomplishment.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vicky Baxley Johnson; his daughter, Courtney (Ronnie) Roberts; his grandsons, Mason O’Riley Roberts and Baxley O’Rion Roberts; his siblings, William Jack “Bubba” Johnson (Irene), Jackie Cecil Johnson of Hemingway, SC, Ruth (Michael) Hodge of Turbeville, SC, Mary Prosser of Johnsonville, SC, Annie Mae Hardwick of Marion, SC, Chris (Melodie) Bone of Andrews, SC, Simone (Cotton) Lathan of Georgetown, SC, Janet Faye Bone of Kings Mountain, NC, Camille (Patrick) Swick of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ginger (Billy) Peregoy of North Carolina, and Renee Dehm of Covington, GA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Reg (Karen) Baxley, sister-in-law Rhonda Burch, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were made better because they knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Corine Johnson; Ruby Thompson; Inez Turner; Hubert Bone; Walter Reginald Baxley, Jr; Verlie Cox Baxley; Walter Reginald Baxley, IV; Nellie Bone; and Sondra Thigpen.
Mark also leaves behind two special friends, Wade Hanna and Rhett Ard, whose friendship and love meant so much to him throughout his life.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for the extraordinary compassion, dignity, love, and care they showed Mark and the entire family during his final journey. Your kindness provided comfort during one of life’s most difficult seasons, and your support will never be forgotten.
A graveside service for Mark will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Antioch Cemetery located at 200 Antioch Loop, Georgetown, SC, 29440.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel located at 416 N Main Street, Hemingway, SC, 29554.
