Obituary

Martin Leonard Tanner, 69, a son of the late Kenneth and Nina Burroughs Tanner, passed away peacefully at his sister's home on Sunday, August, 24, 2025.

Born on April 23, 1956, in Hemingway, Martin was a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill Community.  He built a career as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, where his skill and precision were widely respected. Known for his remarkable ability to maneuver a track-hoe bucket within an inch of its target, Martin earned admiration from colleagues and peers alike for his steady hand and unmatched expertise.

Though small in stature, Martin possessed a massive and outgoing personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His warm demeanor brought joy to those around him, making him a cherished presence in both work and social circles.

Outside of work, Martin found happiness in simple pleasures. His love of the outdoors was evident in the joy he took from hunting as well as in the pride he took in caring for his chickens. A devoted fan of the television show "Mountain Men," he appreciated the rugged lifestyle it portrayed—one that mirrored his own connection to nature and self-reliance.

Martin is survived by his brother Gene Tanner; sisters Kay Tanner, Sue Gamble (Johnny Owens), and Cindy Owens (Keith); two special nieces who held a dear place in his heart: Ashton (Matthew) Michau and Erin Owens; and other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ginger Tanner.

The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Devon Owens and the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the heartfelt care given to their family during this time.
