Melvin L. "Bo Gator" Bishop, 94, widower of Margaret Player Bishop, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in a Florence hospital.

Mr. Bo was born in Johnsonville, SC, a son of the late Melvin and Marie Prosser Bishop. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Old Johnsonville United Methodist Church, and a US Army veteran of WWII where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded during the invasion of Sicily.

He was a graduate of Johnsonville High School and played quarterback for the first football team Johnsonville High School ever had and also played minor league baseball in the Palmetto League. He enjoyed watching baseball on television and when he could he would go out and watch the local baseball teams play.

Surviving is his children, Patsy (Vernon) Tanner, Teddy (Brenda) Bishop, Terry (Beth) Bishop, and Teresa (Patrick) Yauch; grandchildren, Sherise (Rick) Jakell, Jeff (Robin) Tanner, Andrew (Angelica) Tanner, Magan (Grant) Lyerly, Heidi (Jamie) Dumm, Kayla (Dustin) Cribb, Tracy Bishop, Tyler Bishop, Jeremy Yauch, and Victoria Yauch; 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
