MENDAL LARUE NETTLES, SR.

Mendal Larue Nettles, Sr., 71, husband of Debbie Tyler Nettles, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 13, 2023.

Larue was born in Hemingway, SC, a son of the late Norman C. Nettles and Kathleen Stone Norton. He was a graduate of Hemingway High School Class of 1969 and was a former member of the SC National Guard. He worked in the construction industry for many years. He was employed with ICI, Silverleaf, and most recently Green Wave Contracting, Inc.

He enjoyed working with his son and grandsons, hunting, fishing, watching football and auto racing, and he was a Corvette enthusiast. He loved spending time at the family farm and Black River. His utmost devotion was to his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Debbie Tyler Nettles; daughter, Adrian (Gerald) Filyaw; son, Mendal (Laurel) Nettles, Jr.; grandchildren, Ethan Jacobs, Hayden Jacobs, Madison Filyaw, Esme Filyaw, Emily Nettles and Charlie Nettles; brothers, Norman "Rocky" (Ruby) Nettles, Steve (Dawn) Nettles, and Ronnie (Liz) Nettles; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2023 at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Garden of Devotion, 800 S. Georgetown Hwy., Johnsonville, SC 29555.

The family will receive friends and family from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2023 at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554.
