Hemingway, SC

Nathan David Parker, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 20, 2022 at his home.

David was born in Hemingway, SC on December 15, 1946, a son of the late William M. Parker and the late Janie Bernice Wall Parker. He graduated from Hemingway High School and obtained a B.S. degree in psychology from Francis Marion University. He was a retired insurance professional and a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church.

David was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. As a Sergeant of the Marine Corps, he heroically served as a scout and a liaison to the Vietnam villagers, sustaining multiple wounds in the line of defense and earning countless stories of his time there.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising and training spaniels, working with horses and spending time on the farm and in Pawley's Island, SC. He was a talented athlete and played multiple sports throughout most of his life. David was also passionate about reading, music and western history and movies but most of all loved spending time with family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Annette Thompson Parker; two daughters, Ivie Elizabeth Parker of Denver, CO and Brooke Annabeth Parker of McMinnville, OR; two brothers, Jimmy E. Parker of Charleston, SC and Jerry A. Parker of Hemingway, SC; brother-in-law Charlton (Geneve) Thompson of Hemingway, SC and five nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bobby L. Parker and a sister, Willie Jane Parker Jowers.

The family will welcome visitors at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Hemingway First Baptist Church followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust or the National Wildlife Federation.
