Mr. Neville B. Cribb, widower of Paula B. Cribb, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Born on August 18, 1938, in Hemingway, S.C., Neville was the son of the late Reverend Norton Hutson Cribb, Sr. and Olive Carter Cribb.

The most important things to Neville throughout his life were God, family, farming and love of the Pleasant Hill/Georgetown community and its rich history. His life was built around these foundational values and based on that, he was known as a true southern gentleman, a man of quiet wisdom and faith, and one who had high expectations for himself and others. He was a loving husband and a proud father of his two daughters and three granddaughters. He was a lifelong Clemson fan who loved talking about sports with his many friends.

Neville was the sixth of seven children and his growing up years were filled with working on the family farm, enjoying sports and time with friends and cousins, and, most importantly, love. He attended Furman University and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. While at Furman, he met Paula, the love of his life, and they married in 1962. They were blessed to share 53 wonderful years together until her death in 2016.

Neville's love of farming and the land was a key driver in his choice of work. He followed in his father's footsteps and worked his entire professional career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture ASCS (now Farm Service Agency). He started working in the Bennettsville and Florence offices and then moved to be the County Executive Director of Georgetown. After assisting generations of farmers, he retired with 37 years of service. Throughout his career and even after, Neville enjoyed farming row crops and raising cattle with his father and other special farming associates.

Having spent most of his life in Georgetown County, Neville loved to study and share with others his love of the local area. He and Paula researched the family farmland ownership, which dated back to 1862, and they received the designation of Century Farm. He served as the General Chairman of the Black Mingo Commemoration Committee, part of the Low Country History Festival, which highlighted the observation of the 200th Anniversary of General Francis Marion's victory in the American Revolution, including a battle reenactment.

Neville was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was actively involved throughout his life. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Refurbishment Project/Sanctuary Renovation Committee Chair, and Cemetery Committee Chairman. His most valued effort for his church family was the work on the Church Historical Committee. He led the effort to secure and dedicate a Historical Marker of the original Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (built in1875) for which the church received the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society Annual History Award. He also led a Cemetery History Project, dedicating the oldest identifiable grave. Most significantly, Neville led the Historical Committee in researching and publishing The History of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Georgetown County 1875 – 2007. This effort, finalized in 2013, was a crowning achievement for him in his service to the church and people he loved.

Neville made the most of his good health and his 28 years of retirement. He enjoyed traveling with Paula, farming, golf, volunteering, and spending time with his three granddaughters. He served as a member of the Santee Electric Cooperative, Inc. Operation Round Up Board of Trustees and volunteered with Caring and Sharing. An avid golfer in retirement, Neville played with the Tri-County Golfers Association, Pee Dee Senior Golfers Association and was a founding member of the Hot Dog Gang. He also enjoyed many mornings at the Hardee's Coffee Table.

Neville 's legacy lives on through his two daughters, Deborah Coppedge (Woody) of Hemingway, S.C., and Connie Thompson (Glen) of Fort Mill, S.C. and three granddaughters, Olivia and Madelon Thompson and Selah Coppedge. He is survived by his sister, Claire Whipple of Jacksonville, FL., sisters-in-law, Billie Cribb and Mary Dee Cribb. He was predeceased in death by his parents; his siblings, Idalene Smith (Kenneth); Rhae Cribb (Buddy); Vonceil Cribb (Basil); N.H. Cribb Jr.; and Jimmy Cribb; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, December 7, 2024   in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Sanctuary, 11904 Pleasant Hill Drive, Hemingway, SC 29554.
