Obituary

Pamela Charlene Powell, 62, entered Heaven after a remarkable and courageous 169 day battle at McLeod Regional Medical Center on Friday July 27, 2018. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 29th at Garden of Devotion in Hemingway, SC. Her daughter invites family and friends to have a time of visitation and reminiscing from 2:00-3:00 before the 3:30 service at Morris Funeral Home. Born in Johnsonville, she was the daughter of the late Helen and John Thomas Powell. She was an Army vet stationed in Germany who explored throughout Europe while running with the bulls and riding bucking broncos. Going by the name of Bill and tucking her hair up in a hat she was one of the only women to help build I-20. A manager at Blue Cross for 25 years with tons of employees who absolutely admired her for her humor, blunt honesty, and ability to be not only a boss but a friend. Above all, her most precious role in life was being the proud Mother to her only child Jordan Marie Brennan. Pam was known for her independence, spitfire personality, hilarious sayings, making everybody she knew laugh, "adopting" all of Jordan's friends, her amazing artistic talents, her "World Famous Chicken Salad", the way she pronounced California (Cala-phone-ya), and most importantly the way Jordan, who she was constantly on the phone with, was her world. During Pam's final day her beloved nurses at McLeod arranged for her baby girl to lay in bed and hold her for hours up until her last breath as Jordan whispered in her ear how much she loved her over and over again. In her final hour she was lovingly surrounded by those closest to her. Her family and friends: Jordan Brennan, Patrick Brennan, Nick Powell, Ron Miller, Mary Elizabeth Hill, Karen Hill, Brooke Morning, Betty Hanna, Greg Todd, Dotty Lyerly, Movieta Matthews, Chrissy Smith, and ICU nurse favorites Taylor Curtis, Melanie Floyd, and Faith Sarvis.

Jordan would like to thank those McLeod staff members who loved and cared for her mother over these past 6 months in a way that she will eternally be grateful.

Jordan refused to let her Mother be alone during her hospitalization. She wants to thank Gail Goins and Movieta Matthews for constantly visiting, praying, cooking and allowing Jordan to leave for an hour at times to get dinner. She would also like to send a very special thank you to her Aunt Betty for spending countless nights at "Charlena's" bedside holding her hand and bringing so much comfort to them both.

Pam will forever be known as a soldier, warrior, fighter, comedian, artist, friend, daughter, storyteller, aunt, sister, niece, cousin, and a devoted and committed mother who was her daughter's absolute best friend and favorite person in the world.

She will forever be missed and never be forgotten.
