Robert Earl "Smokie" Avant, 49, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his home in Johnsonville, South Carolina.

Born on September 19, 1976, in Florence, SC, he was the son of Mollie Mae Avant Richardson and the late Earl Gwen Avant.

Known affectionately as "Smokie," He worked as a supervisor at Palmetto Paper Tube, where his dedication and leadership left a lasting impression on colleagues and coworkers alike.

Robert had a vibrant personality that shone through in every aspect of his life. A natural prankster with a quick wit and infectious laugh, he had an uncanny ability to lift spirits and bring smiles to those around him. His love for cooking was matched only by his passion for fishing, gaming, paintball, and playing pool—activities he enjoyed and often shared with others.

Above all else, Robert loved his family deeply. He is survived by his devoted mother, Mollie Mae Avant Richardson; his beloved fiancée, Joni Abrams; and his cherished sisters: Tammy Marlow (Trent), Hope Willis, and Dawn Coleman (Mitchell). He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Elaine Owens Todd and numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly for his warmth, humor, and unwavering support.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Earl Gwen Avant and his brother-in-law James Willis.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Mr. Avant to Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC.

A Memorial service will be held on February 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at Prosser Cemetery 3360 Big Swamp Rd. Pamplico SC, 29583.
