Hemingway, SC

Ruth Maxine Miller Hughes, 81, widow of George Quinton Hughes, passed Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the McLeod Hospice.

Mrs. Maxine was born in Hemingway, SC, a daughter of the late Tom Mack and Ruth Itilene Williams Miller. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a retired LPN having worked for Georgetown Memorial Hospital for 28 years and in her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Chris G. (Dorinda) Hughes, Sonja Hughes, and Paige (Rickey) Watford; grandchildren, Garrett (Amy) Hughes, Katelynn Hughes, Meghan (Dustin) VanHoose, J. D. Watford, and Maddox Watford; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Jeremy, Jessie, Everett, and FaeLynn; sisters, Alice Freeman, Amanda Oates, and Patti Perry; and a special thanks to Angie Crouch and Susan Johnson for taking care of her while she was at home.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, George Quinton Hughes; 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 26, 2020 in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1760 Pope Road, Hemingway, SC 29554.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please use good judgment, practice social distancing, and please wear a mask if attending. Also, the family will not receive visitors at any time other than at the graveside service.
