Hemingway, SC

Samuel "Sammie" Benjamin Grier, Jr., 94, widower of Virginia Esther Cribb Grier, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 in a Georgetown hospital.

Mr. Sammie was born in Hemingway, SC, a son of the late Sammie Benjamin Grier, Sr. and the late Clara Mae Moore Grier. He was a retired farmer and also retired from the Woodyard of International Paper Co. after 43 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed cutting grass but most of all spending time with the family especially the grands, great-grands and the great-great grand.

He is survived by his children, Barry Grier, Gail (Ricky) Hicks, Roger (Keith) Grier, and Sammie Grier; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grand; sisters, Lena Mae West and Elsie Mae Davis; special friend, Sherry Hughes.

He was predeceased by two grandchildren.

Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2020 in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 5542 Carvers Bay Rd., Hemingway, SC 29554.
