Sparky R. Avant, Sr., 75, widower of Catherine Graham Avant, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, in a Georgetown hospital.

Mr. Sparky was born in Hemingway, a son of Israel Calvin Avant and Exie Geneva Baxley Avant. He was a veteran of the United States Army who worked as a painter. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons, Sparky R. (Brandy) Avant, Jr., and Randy (Kimberly) Avant; grandchildren, Donavon Avant and Caitlin Avant; and sisters, Geneva Richardson and Peggy Miller.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa Avant; and brothers, Derrick Avant and Billy Avant.

Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held at 2PM on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 2380 South State Highway 41/51, Hemingway, SC 29554.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.
