Obituary

Virginia Davis Owens, 88, widow of Meada Owens, passed away peacefully at her home in Hemingway, South Carolina on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

A daughter of the late William Russell and Nellie Tyler Davis, Virginia was born on March 1, 1937, in Hemingway, South Carolina.  A lifelong resident of the community in which she was born, Virginia dedicated her life to her family, her craft, and her faith.

Virginia enjoyed tasks which allowed her to work creatively with her hands.  Using her talent and skill, she worked for many years as a seamstress at Oneita and later for Frogg Togg products. Her talents extended beyond the sewing floor—she also created clothing patterns for a variety of designers.

Virginia was a long-time member of Union United Methodist Church.  Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and a source of strength and comfort to those around her.

She found great joy in tending to her flowers and garden, cultivating beauty with the same care she gave to her sewing and designing. An excellent cook, Virginia's kitchen was often filled with the comforting smells of home-cooked meals prepared with love. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family—especially her grandchildren—whose lives were enriched by her warmth and presence.

Virginia is survived by her children: Jimmy E. Owens, Phyllis (Jamie) Jordan, and Phillip (Marcia) Owens; grandchildren:  Jessica Jordan, Beverly Owens, Harold (Renee) Perritt Jr., and Mandy (Sam) Pompey;  great-grandchildren:  Rob Perritt, Rebecca (Garret) Overman, Stephen Pompey, and Maddox Pompey;  siblings:  William "Johnny" (Sandra) Davis,  Marion "Charlie" Davis, Christine (Joe) Johnson, William "Earl" (Daphne) Davis, Mary Lois Davis, Gaynell (Thomas) Baker, Margie D. Simms, Randy (Patsy) Davis, Frankie (Harriet) Davis, and Louie (Mary Francis) Davis; sisters-in-law:  Shirley (John) Keeft, Reba Morrison, and Christine Capps; and special nephew, Calvin Owens; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was predeceased by a sister, Francis Harrell,  and a brother, Bobby J. Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Union United Methodist Church located at 8209 Rose Hill Road, Georgetown, South Carolina, 29440. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will take place in the church cemetery immediately after the service.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Union United Methodist Church sanctuary.

Memorials may be made in Virginia's memory to Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N Fraser Street, Georgetown, South Carolina, 29440.
