Vivian Tanner Port, 93, widow of Mr. Vernon Port, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 17, 2021.
Mrs. Vivian was the daughter of the late Victor Blue and Edna Elizabeth Conyers Tanner. She was one of the first employees hired by the Tupperware Manufacturing Plant in Hemingway where she retired after working as the head molding training instructor. Mrs. Vivian was the oldest member of Center Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union and Young at Heart. She was also a member of the Folly Grove Community Organization and was the oldest member of the Robert Tanner family. In her early years, Mrs. Vivian was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts. She was a gifted cook and loved decorating cakes and preparing wonderful meals for her family. She spent her spare time shopping and traveling with friends. In her later years, she still enjoyed shopping as well as completing word searches and watching game shows.
She is survived by her son, Vernon LaDain (Susan) Port; daughter, Trevada (Mike) Granberg; granddaughters, Daina (Sammy) Small, Tara (Jeff) Russell, Felicia (Khris) Barr, and Carlette (Clay) Young; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, R.L. Port; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Port; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Vernon E. Port; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony (Margaret) Port; grandson, Eric Pope; sister, Betty (David) Mincey; and brothers, Alonza (Pat) Tanner, and Randolph (Alice) Tanner; and in-laws, Edna (Marvin) Cribb, Linda Port, Julian (Miriam) Port, and James Port.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Center Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 12 PM on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Center Baptist Church, 2602 Schoolhouse Drive, Hemingway, SC, 29554.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and a special niece, Cynthia Goude.
