Obituary

Mr. Wilbur Derrick Ivey, Sr., 93, widower of Barbara Fenters Ivey, passed away at his beloved farm on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Mr. Wilbur was born in Hemingway, the son of the late Willie Ander and Minnie Britton Ivey.  He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Clemson University as well as a Masters from The Citadel.  He also proudly served his country in the US Army's 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson.  Mr. Wilbur taught high school chemistry locally for eight years before owning and managing several businesses throughout his life.  In addition, he served as President of the United Egg Producers.  Mr. Wilbur was born on and "loved every inch of the family farm, which has been in the family for generations."

Mr. Wilbur is survived by sons, Derrick (Lynne) Ivey and Mark (Sue) Ivey; a daughter, Lisa (Charles) Duffy; grandchildren:  Thomas (Emily) Limehouse; Emily (Emerson) Read; Jeffrey Ivey; and Elizabeth (Bryce) Gilbert; and great-grandchildren:  Louise Limehouse; John Forrest Limehouse; Britton Limehouse; and Saylor Reed.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Wilbur was predeceased by five sisters and one great-grandson, Ashley Limehouse.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel located at 416 N. Main Street, Hemingway, SC, 20554.  Interment will follow at Union Methodist Church Cemetery, 8209 Rose Hill Road, Georgetown, SC  29440.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main Street, Hemingway, SC  29554.
