William (Bill) L. Jowers, Sr.
Columbia, SC
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father William Lawson Jowers, Sr. 93 of Columbia, SC. Mr Jowers, widower of Joan Marsh Jowers, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Born in Lake City, SC, on November 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Ila Mae Dukes Jowers and William Edward Jowers.
Bill, also known as WL to many, grew up in Hemingway, SC, served in the Air Force and fought in the Korean War. In July of 1954, he married Joan Marsh, of Johnsonville, SC and the young couple moved to Columbia, SC where he opened his own business, Electronic Laboratory. They were married 61 years and were members at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. In 1984, Bill sold his business and retired. Always having a love of the ocean and scuba diving, he became an avid diver traveling all over the Caribbean and the coast of Central America scuba diving with his family and his beloved friends from Wateree Dive Center. Loving the ocean as much as he did, one of Bill's greatest joys was spending time with his family and friends at his beach house in Surfside Beach, SC.
Bill was a dedicated and loving father whose powerful presence is reflected in his children. Left to cherish and honor his memory are his son, W. Lawson ( Remonia) Jowers, Jr. and his grandsons William and Ryan ( Megan ) and great grandchildren Addy and Cade Jowers; and daughter Leah (Jerry) Jowers Greene and grandsons, Evan and Elliott Greene; and grandson Eric Bennett son of his daughter Lynn (David) Jowers Bennett by whom he was preceded in death; and step son David (Kate) Bennett and great grandchildren Elizabeth and David Bennett.
