William "Ray" Raymond Collins, Sr., 81, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 in a Kingstree hospital.
Mr. Ray was born in Whiteville, NC, a son of the late William Mandrick Collins and the late Margaret Baldwin Collins Wallace. He was a retired Service Representative for Duke Energy, a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a member of the Joy Club of the church. He was a former deacon and had served on the building and grounds committees.
He was a US Navy Veteran, a member of the Indiantown Masonic Lodge # 165, Carolina Power and Light Pioneer's Club, former fireman of both the Dillon and Hemingway Fire Departments and was also a former Little League Baseball Coach in Hemingway. He enjoyed fishing, loved to watch wrestling, and cutting grass.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Vivian Jernigan Collins; children, Brenda C. Downs, Bill "Cindy" Collins, John "Wanda" Collins and Shelly "Jim" Ruffin; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Meggan, Andrew, Ashley, Will, Adam, John Michael, Christopher, Rachael, and Maggie Blanton.9 great-grandchildren; his beloved pugs, Cassie and Gizmo;
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 5542 Carvers Bay Road, Hemingway, SC 29554.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2017 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel, 416 N. Main St., Hemingway, SC 29554 and other times at the home 408 George St., Hemingway, SC, 29554.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 5542 Carvers Bay Road, Hemingway, SC 29554.
