Wilson "Sonny" Cox Hardee, 84, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at the McLeod Hospice House.
Mr. Wilson was born in Hemingway, SC a son of the late Luther W. Hardee, Sr., and the late Nita Cox Hardee. He was a retired from Wellman Industries after 38 years, also served as the Town Administrator for Hemingway for 10 years. He was a graduate of Hemingway High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He was a former Mayor of Johnsonville, Municipal Court Judge, member of the Johnsonville Fire Department and had served as the Chairperson of the Florence County Health Department.
He was a member of the Johnsonville United Methodist Church where he held many positions over the years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Annual Conference for over 40 years and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
He was a member and Past Master of the Johnsonville Masonic Lodge, # 365 and was also a member of the SC Council # 20 Knights Masons, Winyah Commandery # 24 Knights Templar, Georgetown, SC, Palmetto York Rite College # 70, Columbia, SC, All Saints Conclave Order of the Red Cross of Constantine, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Most Illustrious Grand Master, Samuel HJ Womack Council # 20, and Eminent Preceptor of Knights Templar. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron Chapter # 148 Georgetown, SC and Past Patron Chapter # 156 Hemingway, SC.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop # 421 where he served as Scout Master for over 40 years and received both the Silver Beaver Award and the Order of the Arrow Award.
He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, chopping wood, watching football (especially Gamecock football), and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Dell Carraway Hardee; son, Joseph "Jody" (Kelly) Hardee; daughter, Sonya Hardee McDaniel; grandchildren, Lindsay Taylor, Landon Joseph Hardee, Wilson Clark, Emily Caytlen McDaniel; great-grandson, Wilson Chase McDaniel; sister, Geraldine Hardee Lambert; brother, Jabe Vernon (Shirley) Hardee.
He was predeceased by an infant son; brother, Luther Worley Hardee, Jr.; sisters, Hazel Hardee Hobbs, Capitola Hardee Turner, Lura Hardee Poston, Mary Hardee Spears.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2019 in the Johnsonville United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, SC, will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 860 S. Georgetown Hwy. Johnsonville, SC 29555.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Johnsonville United Methodist Church, 240 N. Georgetown Hwy. Johnsonville, SC 29555.
